The best writing on the internet is scattered across blogs, news sites and email newsletters — and the tools for reading it are scattered too. A read-it-later app here, an RSS reader there, newsletters buried in an email inbox built for to-do items, and forty browser tabs holding everything else.
ReadHiiv started with a simple frustration: keeping up with great writing should not require juggling three apps and a guilt-inducing tab bar. So we built one place for all of it — a reading inbox where everything you want to read lands, and a quiet reader where you actually read it.
We care about a few things deeply. Reading should be calm: no ads, no infinite feeds, no engagement mechanics. You should choose your sources: RSS is a first-class citizen, not a legacy afterthought. And your library should be yours: imports and exports are built in, because lock-in is not a retention strategy.
ReadHiiv is independent and built by people who read — funded by subscriptions from readers like you, not by advertising. That keeps our incentives simple: the product only wins when you read more of what matters to you.
What we believe
- Attention is the scarce resource.
- Every design decision in ReadHiiv optimizes for focused reading, not time-on-site. If a feature makes the app stickier but reading worse, it does not ship.
- The open web is worth reading.
- Blogs, personal sites and independent newsletters are where the good stuff lives. RSS and OPML support keep you connected to it — and free to leave with your data.
- Calm, not bland.
- Quiet is not the same as grey. We cut anything that repeats itself or shouts for no reason, and keep what tells you something: who wrote a piece, what it looks like, how far through it you are.
- Generous free, honest paid.
- The free plan is genuinely useful, forever. Pro exists for heavy readers who want unlimited everything — not to hold basic functionality hostage.
